Brian Eno Encourages Support to Get Together for Palestine Track to UK Christmas No 1.

A fundraising initiative is aiming to propel a traditional song from Palestine to the top of the UK charts. The campaign aims to send support to communities in Gaza while also showcasing Palestinian artistic heritage.

A Possibility for Solidarity and an "Surprise Victory"

Musician and artist Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a chance to stand with Palestinians during the holidays. He acknowledged the potential for an unlikely festive coup.

“That would be amazing if that occurred, yes,” he said. “I won't be completely disappointed if it fails to, festive releases are a category of their own.”

Powerful Theme of Self-Determination

Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the adaptation of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's powerful central theme.

“It occupies a deeply meaningful spot for countless listeners,” Barghouti explained. “The essence is that I would choose to perish with honor than live a life without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we seek to lead a respectful existence that we merit as a people.”

Recording Origins and Contributing Musicians

The track was produced following a solidarity show held in September. Initially planned to be done as a live recording, the piece was shelved during the concert due to scheduling overruns.

The notable list of musicians contributing to Lullaby features a range of acclaimed names from the music world. All participated in the earlier concert, which successfully generated a substantial amount for humanitarian aid.

Final Touches and Availability

Lullaby was brought to life by a trio of talented individuals. The track features a mix of the original Arabic with new English lyrics.

The team running the campaign have emphasized that their objective is to generate maximum funds for a charitable pot. These proceeds will be channeled to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an established charity.

“We haven't set a fixed goal,” a representative said. “We’ll go for as much as possible. Naturally, the greater the amount, the better. All proceeds are directed out to Gaza.”

The context in the region was characterized as its extreme devastation, with a huge proportion of buildings described as destroyed or damaged.

“Against that backdrop, a couple of million is unlikely to make a massive dent. But I think what does make a difference is primarily spreading knowledge of this plight and demonstrating the human dimension of the story.”

The track is scheduled for release at the end of the week. Additionally, a complete film of the solidarity show will be made available for streaming on a popular streaming site from the 19th of December.
