Fans Demand Arrest of Individual Who Seized Ariana Grande
Loyal supporters of the actress are urging that a person who leaped a barrier and grabbed the performer during yesterday's Wicked: For Good premiere be arrested or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared video reveals the person identified as Johnson Wen bypassing media personnel and charging at Grande while the performers walked down a promenade accompanied by onlookers.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo quickly wrested the stunned star away from Mr Wen, who was observed being escorted out of the gathering by guards.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "free after being taken in", though official papers indicated that he was scheduled to attend court on Friday morning. It is not clear if he was formally accused.
Record of Incidents
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Controversial Figure", has disrupted a performance. His Instagram account contains videos of him interrupting other celebrity events, including breaching the performance area at the pop singer's Sydney performance in recently and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers concert in the same location last year.
"There needs to be action applied against him as this is clearly a criminal offence," commented an Instagram follower, in a response to a video Mr Wen shared of his act.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" another Instagram user remarked.
Followers Show Disapproval Over the Star's Past Trauma
Numerous fans accused Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had discussed dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder after a suicide bomb attack at the finale of her spring 2017 concert in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and harming many.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" commented another response on Instagram.
A number of supporters also criticised guards at the gathering for not being vigilant enough; while different individuals requested social media platforms to ban Mr Wen's content.
Response and Event Details
In videos circulating online, Grande looked surprised when she was touched by the individual. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed reassuring her while Mr Wen was escorted away by guards.
Grande has remained silent on the situation, and the remaining proceedings proceeded as normal.
Hundreds of fans had assembled in a sea of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good international debut in a Singapore mall, including a number who had waited for as long as eight hours before it commenced.
The motion picture, to be released on November 21, is the follow-up of a two-film version of the popular theatrical musical Wicked, which revolves around the unexpected bond between two contrasting sorceresses.
The show itself is a adaptation of the 1900 children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was decked out in a light pink sequin dress at the premiere while Erivo, who plays the villainous character, wore a sleek black dress featuring roses.
They were joined by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the highest-grossing motion picture of the previous year in the UK, and received ten Oscar nominations, earning several for outstanding attire and artistic direction.
