Iran Claims Assault on US Base in Bahrain, During Widespread Military Operations.
Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed strikes throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a significant and ongoing attack targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area in the area of the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any destruction is uncertain and the US has remained silent.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - which all house US military bases - stated they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the Middle East.
Operation "Truthful Promise 4"
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated it was striking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the attack on Iran initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That preceding assault - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted locations associated with the Tehran's leadership, with President Trump calling on the people of Iran to revolt against the leadership.
Regional Fallout
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE said in a statement that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems responded to the missiles with high efficiency and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," the statement continued.
Officials reported debris fell on a populated district in Abu Dhabi, causing some property damage and fatalities.
The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
