Nigel Farage Accuses Teachers of ‘Poisoning Our Kids’ on Race Issues

The political figure stated that teachers would go on strike shortly after a success at the polls for his party, charging that they are “poisoning our kids” by telling children that African-Caribbean youth are oppressed and Caucasian students are perpetrators.

During an event for a private US Christian college, Farage outlined his viewpoint on the UK education system, claiming that the “radical left-wing” had “now in control of our education system”.

“I expect a teachers’ strike very quickly after winning the next general election,” he remarked in response to questions.

“They are poisoning our kids. They are telling them to be ashamed of their country. They inform an eight-year-old black child that he is a victim and little Oliver, who is white, who is eight that he is an oppressor. They create division, instead of fostering unity. They are feeding this harmful mindset.”

In response to these assertions, the head of a major education union rejected the idea that the education system was controlled by Marxists as “absurd”. Kebede noted that any strikes must relate to educators’ working conditions, and questioned whether the party would target these right after taking office.

“Farage has built his political career on dog-whistle politics and now, similar to other figures, he is targeting educators and their organizations for a conflict,” the union leader said.

“This is highly reckless. I don’t – and nor does my union – advocate such divisive theories as he’s suggesting … Should he become prime minister he would sell out our public services, particularly schooling … and the outcome would be catastrophic for education and children.”

Reform, which is leading the polls by a significant margin, has not set out much detail on its educational plans and seems not to have appointed an education spokesperson.

However, Farage’s remarks suggested the party would overhaul the system and the curriculum. He said: “We face an enormous task with education – absolutely herculean. And, we can’t do it in six months or a year; it will take us years, years to turn this around.”

Farage expressed that gen Z was more open to critical thinking, but older youth were “completely lost”.

Honoring Charlie Kirk, he commented: “My goal for schooling is to teach critical thinking – to instruct people that there are two points of view and you make up your own mind as opposed to current practices where views are labeled good or bad. It’s a massive job in the UK and US.”

The party has conflicted with a major educators’ organization, after the union leader labeled them “extremist and prejudiced” and described the leader as “a poundshop Donald Trump”.

Farage has accused Kebede of being “a self-declared Marxist” … someone who is absolutely determined that young minds be corrupted at school, their thinking tainted about everything to do with this country” and maintained that the organization seeks to brainwash teenagers against Reform.

Roughly a million individuals work in schools in the UK, about half of whom are teachers and the others teaching assistants and support staff. The leading teachers’ organization has hundreds of thousands of members.

National strikes over teacher pay and conditions in 2023 caused widespread disruption in schools and millions of days of lost learning for students.

At the US event, the Reform leader also vowed to promote the online educational material of the Christian college in the UK. He said such groups were “part of the fightback”, adding that: “I mean this. I’ll assist attract vast numbers of youth to these educational programs. I pledge this tonight and I will follow through.”

The institution, a religious educational establishment, offers free courses. Its website states: “Comprehensive learning is vital for well-being and to perpetuate the blessings of freedom. It offers these excellent programs for no charge to every interested learner.”
