The English Team to Start Euro 2028 Campaign at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium

The England national team will initiate their Euro 2028 journey at the Etihad Stadium, on the condition that they attain the anticipated passage for a tournament taking place in the majority of the UK and the Irish Republic.

City’s stadium has not welcomed an Three Lions game since the spring of 2016, when the visitors were overcome 2-1 in a friendly, but is almost certain to host the Three Lions for their first match on a Saturday in June 2028.

England are set to play their concluding group fixtures at Wembley Stadium, but, should they win their group, their last-16 tie would be held at the Newcastle stadium. Securing the runner-up spot would mean commencing the playoffs at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Competition Opening and Protest

The tournament was inaugurated at an ceremony in central London on Wednesday evening. Key representatives from the tournament organizers and the host football associations were barracked as they entered the site by about 50 pro-Palestine demonstrators, who demanded Israel’s national side to be kicked out from global football because of the Gaza crisis.

Placards were displayed with slogans stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while activists called out: “Kick Israel out.”

Championship Schedule

The inaugural fixture of Euro 2028 will be held at the Cardiff’s stadium in Cardiff, on Friday 9 June, a match that will involve the Welsh team if they secure a place.

The national stadium will host the two semi-final matches and the title decider, which will be staged on a Sunday in July 2028 with a commencement at late afternoon.

It is anticipated that an earlier kick-off, which will also be implemented for UEFA Champions League finals from the upcoming season, will attract families and help connect with a more diverse set of viewers.

Participating Countries

The Ireland are set to play their first game at the Dublin stadium and the Tartan Army would follow suit at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.

All four host countries’ teams will take part in the qualification process; two automatic spots will be reserved for any that fail to qualify for Euro 2028 through that route.

Locations and Elimination Phase

Villa Park and The North London arena finalize the event’s nine venues. Every stadium will hold at least one elimination game, with the quarterfinal matches held at every host’s main arena.

The draw for the qualifiers will be conducted in the Northern Irish capital, which was removed as a host city last year when it was revealed Casement Park could not be upgraded in time, on December 6, 2026.

Tournament Vision

“The event will be a competition for the followers and a celebration of everything we cherish about the football – its emotion and capacity to foster unity.”

Over 3 million admissions, a all-time high for a Euro tournament, are anticipated to be made available to fans.
