The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Thriller That Blends Survival Horror with Among Us Mechanics

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled a number of intriguing future games, but one in particular has captured attention: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player adventure seems to fuse together the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"It's a unique experience where a young woman harboring several personalities inside her needs to flee from a labyrinth of the psyche," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Fractured Consciousness

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine seeming to be of high school age. Within her reside four separate souls, each with their own fears and motivations. These souls can take over spontaneously, releasing their innermost phobias upon her without warning.

Judging by revealed gameplay, much of the action takes place within a eerie hospital, though additional clips depict the main character exploring a desolate church.

An Environment of Individual Dread

"What makes you afraid of? What makes you uncomfortable?" asks creative lead Shun Sasaki. "High places. Confined spaces. People in power. Elements that seem trivial to other people can activate a deep instinct inside us. This game delves into that idea — fears that are specific to each person."

The central mechanic involves controlling whichever soul emerges at any given moment. However, these identities will switch against your will during gameplay. During exploration, every persona's anxieties become exaggerated and attack the protagonist in succession. When the soul shifts, so does the particular terror the player encounters.

Eerie Aesthetics and a Deadly Choice

At first glance, UN:Me shares noticeable visual similarities with the Silent Hill franchise. The setting is populated by orderlies all sporting the same face, with unnervingly wide grins. Patients in the waiting room have large blooms where their heads should be. Floral motifs are a recurring element, contrasting natural beauty with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me presents a singular twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four entities haunting the protagonist is the "true" one. "Each of the souls claims that the physical form belongs to them," notes a developer. "During the game, you must determine who is real."

Once players believes a soul is fake, they are forced to destroy it. But, because every entity can deceive or obfuscate the truth, it is very easy to choose incorrectly.

"Maybe you've already destroyed the true [soul] with your own hands," the narration states. "The last one standing might be a fraud. Either way, your choices are final."

UN:Me does not yet have a publicly announced release date, but it is can be follow on platforms.
