The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Mayor.
Although not quite at the same level as sparing festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the onset of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The pig, donated by a first responder, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people shouting “6-7” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The trend became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently declared “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.
A New Life
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: joyful, varied, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Annually, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
