Thrice-crowned Most Valuable Player Jokic endures a 'devastating' injury to his knee.
Triple National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic sustained a "gut-wrenching" injury to his knee as the Denver Nuggets were defeated by a score of 147-123 at the Heat.
Jokic sustained the injury late in the first half during an inadvertent contact with team-mate Jones.
His teammate landed on the foot of the big man, who promptly fell to the ground holding his knee.
The veteran player, who tops the NBA this season in rebounds and dimes, recorded a score of 21 points and eight assists in the matchup before incurring the problem.
Jokic will have an MRI on Tuesday to evaluate the seriousness of the problem.
"Instantly, Jokic realized he was hurt," commented Nuggets head coach Adelman.
"This is part of the NBA. Whoever that is injured, that's difficult, most notably somebody as special as Jokic. We will know more on Tuesday."
"We will continue as a team. Of course, currently, I am more concerned about Jokic personally and the letdown of experiencing an event like that."
