Vince Gilligan Reveals He Knows How Pluribus Might Finish... For Now.

The creative mastermind could not have predicted that Pluribus would become a cultural phenomenon. “The viewers have been incredible,” he states. “I was surprised by the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

As the debut season of the popular series reaching its finale—and the next chapter officially in the works—the writers' room recently discussed the fan response and whether it will impact the future direction of Pluribus.

Regarding the Tremendous Audience Reaction

Anyone might to get sidetracked by the widespread acclaim and audience predictions surrounding Pluribus. The creator is making a conscious effort to avoid both.

“The experience is akin to an endless supply of your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he says. “It's amazing, but I get wind of it anecdotally, and that's on purpose. Not once have I Googled myself, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a deep trap I know I would disappear down and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”

Despite his concerted efforts, there’s no way to avoid the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to accept it graciously and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We make no attempt to tailor anything,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not impacted by online forums.”

“We prefer to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan concludes.

A Pressing Query: Does Vince Gilligan Know the Conclusion of Pluribus?

Considering the creative staff are not listening by fan response, does it imply they already know how Pluribus will ultimately end? The answer is yes… sort of.

“There are some potential directions about where the show might end up,” Gilligan says. “yet we stand ready to abandon a decent plan for a more brilliant plan. That philosophy has guided us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we find a more perfect path and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

On the other hand, if plans fall through, Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to fall back on.

“My recurring proposal is that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and we're in there,” Smith jokes, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Then again, one could always use the legendary finales?

“My dream is Carol to open her eyes next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV+.
